With natural beauty of an epic scale, these limestone fjord-resembling crests and coves are best experienced 3 ways:
01) By Boat | Set off from the port of Marseille with a pre-booked tour or boat rental with a skipper. Our go-to's are Compagnies Maritimes Calanques et Château d’If’ or Bleu Evasion! From Cassis, you could rent a kayak or paddleboard from Raskas Kayak or 1,2,3 Kayak.
02) By Foot | The easiest calanques to reach on foot are Sugiton (from Aix-Marseille University’s Luminy campus) or Cassis (from the Port-Miou marina). Please note that once you start hiking, there is no access to food or drink along the way, so be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks! Another great hike, from Calanque de Sormiou to Les Goudes can be found here!
03) By Table | Climb or drive to Le Château de Sormiou for superlative sea views and fresh-out-of-the-water seafood. This family-run eatery, first opened in 1948, is beloved by locals for its excellent bouillabaisse, but pre-orders for this dish are necessary - best to do once you make your reservation (also a must) by phone - (+33) 4 91 25 08 69. The restaurant takes cash only, so plan ahead!
